Infrastructure Works Delay – No Effect on Racing Return
The overall infrastructure project has again been delayed from originally proposed starting dates however, there is little impact on the key operational requirements of the Ipswich Turf Club.
Works on the course proper for improvements with the irrigation and drainage continue to go to plan although little activity has occurred with the off-course works being conducted by Racing Queensland.
Although very visible, the new Member’s Race day Lounge and Function Centre is still not open. Other outstanding elements include the installation of new race day stalls, widening of TL Cooney Ave, and installation of the carpark required for the operation of the Function Centre.
Despite a false start in 2018, and second round dates for commencement in 2019 of 23 September, 4 November, and 2 December being given in recent months by Racing Queensland, there is still no contract in place for the off-course works and no sign of a 2019 commencement.
However, Racing Queensland have agreed to the request of ITC Chairman Wayne Patch to complete the carpark as a priority in 2020 to allow the ITC to continue with plans to open the Ipswich Events and Entertainment Centre mid next year.
The drawback to this is the high probability that only 80 of the old race day stalls will be available upon the racing resumption on April 8. However, Racing Queensland have agreed to install temporary stalls if required.
Key milestones that are on target include the return to racing on April 8, the opening of the Ipswich Events and Entertainment Centre in mid-year, and the running of the social event of Ipswich – Cup Day on June 13 in the year 2020.
