Ipswich 2nd May meeting cancelled due to weather
Racing Queensland confirms that following a track inspection, the race meeting at Ipswich Turf Club on Saturday 2 May has been abandoned.
The decision to abandon the meeting was made in the interests of safety & as a result of there being surface water present on the track. The weather forecast also indicates that there will be a continuation of the inclement weather and a significant amount of further rainfall is anticipated.
The programming of a replacement meeting &/or additional races at subsequent SEQ meetings was considered but not pursued, on the basis that there are sufficient alternative opportunities in the region within the next 7-10 days. RQ will also adopt an aggressive approach to the division of races over the next week.
Trainers with horses engaged at the abandoned ITC meeting are also reminded that under the auspice of the rules, they do have the opportunity to nominate horses for a race meeting for which acceptances have not closed. On that basis, the Ipswich TC race meeting on Wednesday 6 May, for which acceptances close at 9.30am on Monday 4 May, does present alternative opportunities.
