Ipswich races for Wednesday 8 April abandoned
From Racing Queensland website:
Racing Queensland confirms that following an inspection by stewards, the track at Ipswich TC has been deemed unsafe for racing on. Accordingly, the race meeting at Ipswich on Wednesday 8 April has been abandoned.
Consideration has been given to programming a replacement meeting, but this has not been pursued on the basis that:
· Horses that have accepted at Ipswich TC have alternative racing opportunities within the next week & are, under the auspices of the rules, now able to be nominated for races for which acceptances have yet to close; &
· A significant number of the acceptors at Ipswich are already either dually accepted at Beaudesert or are nominated for other engagements later this week.
As a consequence of the Ipswich abandonment however, RQ confirms that the following race meetings will have prize money increases for all races on their respective programmes:
· Gold Coast Turf Club – Saturday 11 April. Increases from $16,000 to $20,000 per race
· Sunshine Coast Turf Club – Sunday 12 April. Increases from $16,000 to $20,000 per race
Given the extremely high nomination numbers received at the aforementioned meetings and at other race meetings on the weekend commencing Saturday 11 April, RQ will adopt an aggressive approach to the division of races.
The racing surface at Ipswich will be closely monitored leading into its impeding race meetings.
