Celtic Tiger retires at 96 runs

Date: 20-Oct-2021

One of Ipswich’s favourite runners Celtic Tiger gracefully retired last week from racing.

At the ripe old age of nine-years with 96 starts under his belt he certainly had an iron heart.

Ipswich trainers Doug and Graeme Lane kept the gelding strong and sound, but it was ultimately the vet’s decision that they pull up stumps short of the century.

Celtic Tiger started his career with Mick Price where he won the 2015 Listed Morphettville Guineas 1600m under Melbourne Cup winning jockey Steven King.

The win was in fact his maiden victory and he upset his rivals in the $100,000 three-year-old race.

His next win was three year’s later for trainer Dean Jackson at Gunnedah but that was sadly his last victory.

The gelding headed to the Lanes stables in 2020 and although some placings were recorded his true reward was the enjoyment of running.

Celtic Tiger will now turn to the eventing scene to fly the flag as another Off the Track Thoroughbred.
