Ipswich Preview – Friday 17 November 2023

Date: 17-Nov-2023

Friday racing at Ipswich...it doesn’t get much better than that!

We will play host to a nine-race program this Friday where at time of publication the track is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 4m the entire course.

We’ve run the rule over each race and provided our thoughts below.

Race 1 - 12:22PM COLENSO JOINERY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1680 METRES)

Delarenta (1) has finished in the placings in five of his seven career starts. He looks very close to a win following his effort to finish second by 1.14 lengths over 1640m at Doomben. From barrier 1, he’ll get the run of the for Casey Waddell who claims 3kg.

Bilpa Morea (4) finished third in the above-mentioned Doomben race. She was unlucky not to finish closer given she was checked in the straight. To her credit she picked up strongly late. She meets Delarenta worse at the weights, but she does gain the experience of Sam Collett who replaces the 3kg claimer.

Impending Rose (6) was another horse in the Doomben race, and she defied market expectations to run on fairly for fourth. She should gain a nice run from barrier 4.

Rothsayallofus (5) will take benefit from her first-up run over 1200m here. It’s a steep rise to 1600m second-up but she could run into a place from the good gate.

On Top Selection: Delarenta (1)

Race 2 - 12:57PM IPSWICH CITY BULLS FOOTBALL CLUB Maiden Plate (800 METRES)

Now And Ben (2) led over 800m at Gatton on debut before being run down in the concluding stages to finish third by 1.5 lengths. He’ll strip fitter second-up and gets the services of Jimmy Orman. He should enjoy a great run from barrier 2.

Enuff Stop It (7) resumes here for new trainer Brian Gentle. Her form in Victoria was fair but she can aim up in this race. She showed good early speed in a recent Beaudesert trial so she should be able to make good use of the inside gate. Ben Thompson is a key booking.

The Lucky Alien (4) draws poorly but has shown a liking to this course and distance. When resuming last preparation, he gave a good sight when finishing second by a length. He’ll just need some luck.

Littlemisscancan (12) wasn’t far away when finishing fourth first-up over 1000m at Toowoomba. With increased fitness and blinkers going on for the first time, she’s capable of an improved showing.

On Top Selection: Now And Ben (2)

Race 3 - 1:34PM CROWNE REAL ESTATE GEOFF & ALLY Maiden Handicap (2170 METRES)

La Vittoria (7) will appreciate returning to maiden company after an excellent effort in a Benchmark 55 Handicap over 2200m at the Sunshine Coast last start. She was held up a touch in the straight but ran on strongly to finish a nose second. She’s rock hard fit and maps to get the run of the race.

A Dime Approach (5) has competed well in stronger city maidens in his past two starts. Three starts back he was unlucky not to finish closer than 2.5 lengths fifth after encountering problems here over 1690m. He’s super fit now and gets the services of Martin Harley.

Pleadeel (2) has only had two race starts but gives the indication that 2170m will suit.

When Doves Fly (12) is still a maiden after 20 starts, but she put in an improved performance last start when finishing second over 1900m at Kilcoy.

On Top Selection: La Vittoria (7)

Race 4 - 2:12PM FUTURE FINANCE GROUP Class 5 Handicap (1680 METRES)

Why We Drink (5) ran well last start when finishing fifth by 2.86 lengths over 1300m at Eagle Farm. He should be at peak fitness fourth-up and will appreciate the rise to 1680m. He won his only previous race over this course and distance albeit on a heavy surface.

Motion Legend (2) won narrowly over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast two starts back before failing to run out 1600m at Eagle Farm last start when finishing sixth by 2.91 lengths. He maps to get a nice run with the winkers going on.

Olympic Legend (1) led over 1625m at Toowoomba last start and fought bravely to hold on for second. He races well at Ipswich with his last win coming here five starts ago. The outside barrier isn’t ideal but he has the early speed to cross and find a prominent position.

Chasing Jackley (4) was run down late when carrying 62kg over this course and distance last start. This is tougher but he has the ability to lead and keep going.

On Top Selection: Why We Drink (5)

Race 5 - 2:50PM TOTAL CLUB MANAGEMENT BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Rainewater (3) broke through for his maiden win in impressive style at Gatton last start. He settled handy before proving too strong late to put them away by 2.5 lengths. With added confidence he can go on with it now. He’s drawn perfectly for Sam Collett.

Zattastar (10) is racing well this preparation with three podium finishes from as many starts. Two starts back she did well to win at Lismore over 1310m before a solid effort for second on a leader biased track at Gatton. If she gets some luck from the poor draw then she can figure in the finish.

Sock’emsid (6) was never on the track when finishing 4.4 lengths away behind Charged over this course and distance last start. The start prior he ran better than market expectations when fourth at the Sunshine Coast. He strips fitter third-up.

Witness Attack (4) won well first-up at Warwick before racing a touch flat last start over this course and distance. He can bounce back third-up but the outside barrier is far from ideal.

On Top Selection: Rainewater (3)

Race 6 - 3:27PM ALTEC BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Pending (3) ran on strongly to finish second by just under a length when resuming over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. He then was mighty unlucky last start over this course and distance when finishing fourth by 1.5 lengths. He was forced to settle a long last after drawing wide and then was held up in the straight badly before charging to the line once clear. He’ll strip fitter third-up and gets the services of Jimmy Orman.

White Ribbon (10) broke through for her maiden win three starts back at Kilcoy. She was freshened after that run and has since placed at Toowoomba and Beaudesert. She’ll be at peak fitness now and maps to get a great run form the inside gate.

Milliffe (9) led over this course and distance two starts ago but was run down late to finish a length third. She went within a nose of winning last start on the Gold Coast Poly. She’ll get her chance from barrier 3.

Basil’s Bow (1) won easily by three lengths over 1400m at Dalby last start. He has a big impost but will be fitter third-up.

On Top Selection: Pending (3)

Race 7 - 4:05PM KEN PICKARD BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1100 METRES)

Rubaahy (11) resumes here following a good first preparation that saw her win by 5.3 lengths on debut at Toowoomba before going onto place in the QTIS Jewel Prelude and the Darryl Gollan Memorial. She looked slick winning a Toowoomba trial recently. She should enjoy a nice run from barrier 2 for Emily Lang who claims 2kg.

Last Chance Saloon (4) resumes here. While he competed well over further last preparation, he was able to win first-up over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast to break his maiden. He’ll enjoy the drop in class.

Jump ‘N’ Fly (6) was tough last start when winning over 1200m at Eagle Farm last start. That was a big improvement and she can go on with it now that she’s at peak fitness. Angela Jones should find a prominent position.

Ocean Endeavour (12) hasn’t been too far away in two starts this preparation. She’ll strip fitter third-up and gets Boris Thornton in the saddle.

On Top Selection: Rubaahy (11)

Race 8 - 4:42PM TAB SUMMER PROVINCIAL SPRINT SERIES - HEAT - BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1200 METRES)

Parachuter (11) gave a massive sight last start over 1100m at Doomben. She led and fought strongly but was overpowered late by Radiant Remi. That was her second run back from a 76-week spell so she’ll strip fitter third-up. She’s drawn perfectly in barrier 2 for Ryan Maloney and should go forward and give them something to catch.

Kudu (6) was finished second to Air Marshal last start but meets that horse better at the weights this time around. He’s rock hard fit now and maps to get a nice run.

Air Marshal (2) was heavily backed last start over this course and distance and duly saluted with a length win. That was his second win in three starts but does rise to 61.5kg. If he can handle the big weight, he’ll be storming home.

Ain’t She Lovely (5) buckled under the pressure when leading in a significantly stronger race at Doomben last start. Prior to that she had won two in a row at Ballina and Warwick. The wide gate isn’t helpful.

On Top Selection: Parachuter (11)

Race 9 - 5:23PM SIRROMET Class 2 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Demon Darb (3) is having his first start for Rob Heathcote after previously racing in Victoria with the Price Kent stable. He does his best work fresh and recorded his only win when first-up last preparation by a whopping seven lengths at Warrnambool. He went on to compete in some strong metropolitan races and made a good fist of it. A recent trial where he showed good speed to lead and win will have tuned him up nicely.

Sacred Mission (1) resumes here off a nice trial. He enjoys Ipswich having won both his previous races here including when on debut over this distance. He draws a touch sticky but will be running on strongly.

Bullion Boy (2) ran well when third by 1.47 lengths over 1350m at Doomben last start. He’ll appreciate the drop in class and has raced well at Ipswich previously, winning two of three starts.

Easy Company (8) was never on the track when resuming at Eagle Farm and as a result finished towards the tail of the field. She’ll strip fitter second-up and did perform well last preparation which included a win over this course and distance.

On Top Selection: Demon Darb (3)
