Ipswich Preview – Tuesday 7 January 2025 New

Date: 06-Jan-2025

Following Saturday’s meeting, we’re on the quick back-up this Tuesday with a seven-race program.

The rail moves out to the 3m position and with a warm day forecast, we should be racing on a Good 4 surface.

We’ve provided our thoughts on each race below.

Race 1 - 1:45PM RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

8 Wollzeile

Wollzeile didn’t have the best of luck when finishing 4.5 lengths sixth in The Debut at the Gold Coast.

The Kris Lees-trained filly had trialed well prior to her first start and showed good speed to settle handy.

However, she was squeezed entering the turn and lost momentum which put pay to her chances over 1000m.

The rise in distance with increased fitness suits and she should race in a forward position for Damien Thornton.

Selections: 8-4-1-3

Race 2 - 2:20PM IMPERIAL RACING Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1200 METRES)

4 Acapulco Girl

Acapulco Girl debuts here for David Vandyke.

The daughter of Contributer looked super in her only public trial when cruising to victory under a tight grip by Ronnie Stewart.

Stewart is aboard for the race ride and should be able to settle in a forward position.

If money comes for her on the day, then confidence will increase give stable are rarely wrong.

Selections: 4-2-1-8

Race 3 - 2:55PM TAB Class 2 Handicap (1350 METRES)

1 Can’t Recall One

Can’t Recall One won’t know himself dropping so far back in class and racing on a good surface.

The Stu Kendrick-trained gelding tried hard first-up in a Saturday three-year-old race at the Sunshine Coast when finishing third by 2.5 lengths.

He then struggled in the heavy conditions in the City To Surf at Doomben and the G3 Grand Prix at Eagle Farm.

In his first preparation he won both his starts on good rated tracks with his second start producing a 4.3 length romp over a similar distance.

Selections: 1-4-3-6

Race 4 - 3:35PM GREAT NORTHERN BM68 Handicap (1200 METRES)

3 Never Give Up

Never Give Up resumes here on the back of a nice Gatton trial that he went close to winning.

The Corey & Kylie Geran-trained gelding races well fresh having won two of his three first-up races.

That includes last preparation when he proved too strong over this distance at Toowoomba with 61.5kg.

In form jockey Justin Huxtable takes the ride and should be able to settle just off what looks a decent speed.

Selections: 3-6-1-5

Race 5 - 4:10PM SCHWEPPES Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap (1200 METRES)

7 Facundo

Facundo was a touch unlucky when finishing fourth by 2.2 lengths on debut at the Gold Coast.

The Kelly Schweida-trained National Defense gelding was finding the line well when hampered mid-straight but despite losing momentum he finished off well.

He’ll strip fitter second-up and gets the services of top jockey Ryan Maloney who should settle in a forward position.

Selections: 7-1-6-11

Race 6 - 4:50PM GORDON’S GIN BM60 Handicap (1666 METRES)

4 Nagamie

Nagamie capitalised on some good form to breakthrough for a strong a win last start at the Gold Coast.

The Bevan Laming-trained son of Dundeel had finished second by just under a length in two races at Gold Coast and Eagle Farm prior to storming home over 1400m for a half-length third-up victory.

Breeding suggests he’ll enjoy the rise in distance and he’s at peak fitness now.

Martin Harley should be able to cross and find a prominent position.

Selections: 4-8-2-7

Race 7 - 5:30PM AUSTRALIA DAY RACES 26 JANUARY BM58 Handicap (1100 METRES)

5 Deputize

Deputize returned a gelding two starts ago and the procedure brought about an instant result.

The Neasham & Archibald-trained son of Dubious showed good speed to lead over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast before putting his rivals to win by 4.5 lengths in good time.

Unfortunately, not a lot went right over this course and distance last start when caught wide in the run then run off the track entering the straight and receiving a laceration on his off-side hock.

He can bounce back third-up with Ryan Maloney riding.

Selections: 5-7-14-13
