Racing This Sunday, January 21

Date: 18-Jan-2024

IPSWICH has picked up a new meeting this Sunday, January 21, after Racing Queensland transferred the scheduled meeting at the Sunshine Coast.

The transfer was forced by a desire to preserve the Caloundra track for the prestigious Summer Cup meeting next Saturday (January 27), after heavy rain hit the Corbould Park surface this week. The Sunshine Coast races Friday night and it was decided it was in the best interests of the track not to back up again 48 hours later with the rail out, being mindful of the following Saturday metropolitan meeting.

The rail placement for Sunday’s meeting will go out to 10m and then return to the True position for the Saturday January 27 provincial meeting.

The additional meeting has become possible owing to the recent performance of the Ipswich racetrack surface under testing weather conditions. Track Manager Sean Tou and his team have done an outstanding job with the track, which has performed exceptionally well since its spring renovation.

The Christmas Eve meeting run on a Heavy track after a wild electrical storm would never have been possible previously, but improved drainage enabled that meeting to go ahead, before another meeting was run just five days later where the surface improved into the Good 4 range.

In all, 18 meetings have been held at Ipswich since the return to racing on September 15 last year, with another three scheduled over the next 10 days. Ipswich will race another four times during February.

The club has a short time to turn around Sunday’s meeting, but food and drinks will be available and the public bar will also be open. The Grange will also be open for members and owners on the day. the Grange will also be open for members and owners on the day.

We look forward to welcoming industry participants and racing fans to Ipswich this Sunday.

Gates open at 12:30pm. Entry is FREE!
