GOLD Coast trainer Simon Foster grew up in Melbourne and was already working in racing stables while he was still at school, including for prominent trainer Robert Smerdon.
He had a crack at being a jockey, then turned to training with quick success, winning the the 2011 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm with Trusted Partner.
He was offered a training job in Perth and a contract in South Korea followed, both bringing Group-level success.
That gave him the opportunity to take a horse to Dubai, where he won a Group race and ran third in a Group 1.
Foster now keeps a small stable on the Gold Coast so he can keep his hands on the horses.
He prefers horses to people, but he loves to have a beer with a mate at the races.
