The Ipswich Turf Club is excited be back racing this Friday after our course proper underwent its annual renovation.
Track Manager Sean Tou and the team have had a busy month after renovations began following our most recent meeting on August 18.
Two horses were put over the course proper for the first time since the renovation on Tuesday morning, confirming we are ready to launch into a big program of spring racing.
The renovation consisted of:
Coring, scarifying and top dressing after the track was cut back to a length of 25mm. There was also a number of positions on the track which underwent sand grooving, those being the 1600m, 2150m and 800m chutes and also at the mouth of the 1350m and 1200m chutes. The sand grooving, which has previously been carried out on other parts of the track, is designed to improve drainage.
The renovations followed the August 18 meeting, but because the rail was out 10m that day, works on the inside 10m section commenced a week earlier and therefore that inside pad has had an extra week to recover.
The rail will be in the True position on Friday, with plans to move it out 2m each week until it reaches the 10m position and then return back to the True.
Irrigation of 4mm was applied to the track on Tuesday night and the intention is to go into the meeting on a Soft 5 surface.
Another two horses will gallop on Friday morning ahead of the race meeting’s scheduled start at 12.22pm. Eight races have been scheduled and a whopping 150 horses have accepted for the meeting.
