The Ipswich Turf Club will host metropolitan racing for the next three weeks. The first of these meetings is this Wednesday where eight-races are scheduled to be run. The track as of Tuesday is rated a Soft 5 and with mostly sunny weather forecast, there is a chance of an upgrade on race day. The rail is out 6m between the 1100m and winning post and 4m the remainder.
The first race is at 12:33pm.
Race 1 - FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
Speed: Spillify looks the likely leader but may have company from Heroic Miss and Russian Diva.
Gear Changes: Chicka (3) Blinkers AGAIN, Russian Diva (6) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) FIRST TIME
Spillify (7) worked home well last start when finishing two-lengths third to Russian Queen over 1200m at the Gold Coast. Russian Queen finished second to Billionair Baby at its previous start prior so that’s great form lines. Spillify is now third-up and should show further improvement. Angela Jones who claims 3kg can race in a forward position.
Heroic Miss (5) improved second-up when finishing off well over 1100m here to come second. She looked to appreciate the drier surface which she will get here. Sam Collett will give her every chance racing on the speed. It must be noted that she was beaten by Spillify two starts back on a soft Sunshine Coast track and now meets that horse much worse at the weights.
Better Believe It (2) resumes here on the back of a fair trial. Last preparation she raced in much stronger maidens than this including one against the talented She’sgottheboom. No doubt under Pat Duff’s care she will have furnished during the spell. Wendy Peel’s 3kg claim is a big plus and she’s drawn the inside gate.
Berakahquinn (1) was solid when debuting over 1100m here. She settled at the back and was working home fairly before being held up a touch. Will be better for the experience and the extra distance should suit.
On Top Selection: Spillify (7)
Race 2 - TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
Speed: Aban will lead and it could be uncontested. Dominance and Mighty Judd may go forward from inside draws.
Gear Changes: Canelander (2) Gelded, Mishani Mobster (5) Gelded, Where Ya Bean (8) Blinkers FIRST TIME
Aban (1) led on debut over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast and was only run down late by Moveitmoveit. That horse ran well on Sunday. Aban will be better for the experience and fitter second-up. He looks the only leader in the race which could see Ryan Maloney dictate the race in front. That will make him hard to run down.
Canelander (2) was solid when debuting at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m for fourth behind Kayleen. He has since been gelded which will switch his mind on so expect a big improvement. He’ll need some luck from the outside gate.
Dominance (3) resumed from a spell with a four-length fifth at Eagle Farm over 1000m. He raced wide throughout so there was plenty of merit in the run. He’ll be fitter second-up and does get the benefit of a nice gate and Jimmy Orman.
Mishani Mobster (5) put in his best showing in six starts last time out at the Gold Coast over 1200m. He settled back before charging to the line to just miss the win, finishing third by 0.2 of a length.
On Top Selection: Aban (1)
Race 3 - BUBBLY BRUNCH 28 AUGUST Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
Speed: Surreel, Good’n’lucky and Control Freak will go forward at a good tempo.
Gear Changes: Birmingham (3) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Ear Muffs OFF FIRST TIME, Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Mingle (12) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Our Armistice (5) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Surreel (11) Blinkers OFF FIRST TIME, Ugo Hugo (2) Blinkers FIRST TIME
Our Armistice (5) has performed well in three metropolitan maidens this preparation. After racing on the speed in her first two runs this preparation she settled back after drawing the outside gate at Eagle Farm last start. She found the line well for a third after being held up in the straight. The blinkers go on for the first time which should really switch this mare on.
Zouvalu (8) was caught wide when resuming and having her first start for Rob Heathcote after previously racing in Victoria. She improved second-up when second to Vonzither over this course and distance. She raced on the speed that day and did well to hold off the eventual winner until late. She’ll get a nice run from barrier 3.
Island Magic (4) was beaten 6.5 lengths last start at the Sunshine Coast which on face value isn’t great but she really attacked the line after settling back and being held up. Prior to that she ran well to place twice. She’s drawn the outside gate here which isn’t ideal and will need some luck.
Control Freak (1) was slow away last start over this course and distance and it was that’s all she wrote. The start prior she ran out of gas when resuming. Prepared to be forgiving of both runs and suspect there’s plenty of improvement to come third-up. Gets the inside gate, Jimmy Orman and is from the mighty Gollan stable.
On Top Selection: Our Armistice (5)
Race 4 - SCHWEPPES Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Speed: As he did last start, Dembe can lead. Tempo should be decent.
Gear Changes: Coup De Tonnerre (3) Cross-over Nose Band OFF AGAIN, Visors OFF FIRST TIME
Coup De Tonnerre (3) is a new addition to the Tony Gollan stable. He warmed up for this first-up run with a nice trial in Open company where he raced on speed and finished second to Deep Sceiva. While he'll be better over further, he has run well fresh over this distance when in Victoria. Angela Jones who claims 3kg will need some luck from the awkward gate. Gollan has an ability to improve horses and i’d suggest a bold showing first up.
Millward (8) broke through for a well deserved win last start at Doomben over 1200m. He settled handy and sprinted strongly suggesting that the extra distance here will suit. He can continue to improve third-up.
Day Day Supreme (6) will take a fitness benefit from his first-up run at Eagle Farm. He settled fourth behind a tearaway leader and weakened late behind winner Bundyncoke. He placed third at his only other second-up run. He should settle in a prominent position.
Tolkowsky (7) finished behind Day Day Supreme last start at Eagle Farm but was making ground. The start prior he ran on well here over 1200m when a length second to Cherrypick. Gets the right run from the good gate.
On Top Sélection: Coup De Tonnerre (3)
Race 5 - THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Speed: Drive A Deel will push forward off the inside gate and lead. Goldeel from the outside may also add some speed to the race.
Gear Changes: Drive A Deel (6) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) FIRST TIME, Lugging Bit OFF FIRST TIME, Winkers OFF FIRST TIME
Prasiolite (7) appreciated the drop in class when having his first race in Queensland for Chris Waller. Jimmy Orman rode her like the best horse in the race and she dashed clear to win over 1350m at Doomben easily by three-lengths. She has a super record over this distance. Orman sticks and can settle in a prominent position.
Always Praying (12) resumed for new stable O’Dea and Hoysted at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m with a one-length fourth to Beaux Rumble. That horse won again on Sunday. Always Praying settled back after drawing wide. She was then held up in the straight when looking to have plenty to give. She’ll have come on from that run and will appreciate the rise in distance. Drawn to get a nice run.
A Call From Heaven (11) also resumed in the Beaux Rumble race at the Sunshine Coast. She worked home well for third to finish just in front of Always Praying. She’ll be fitter second-up and did finish second here last preparation when having her second run back.
Drive A Deel (6) has been solid in two runs back this preparation. Both runs were Saturday three-year-old races so she may find this a touch easier. From the inside gate, Kyle Wilson-Taylor who claims 1.5kg can drive forward and give them something to catch.
On Top Selection: Prasiolite (7)
Race 6 - TRIVIA NIGHT 16 SEPTEMBER Class 3 Plate (1200 METRES)
Speed: Star Magnum and Magnitudo will compete for the lead. Prince Amongst Men will also look to get involved ensuring a decent tempo.
In a wide open race, Zoukina (9) can give a big sight. The Northern Rivers mare is best suited under set weight conditions. She resumes here following a preparation that saw her win well at Doomben in this class and narrowly go down in the Grafton Country Championships qualifier. She’s competed in stronger races than this. From barrier 1 she can settle just off the speed before coming with a big run in the straight.
Prince Amongst Men (6) is looking for a hat-trick of wins. Two starts back he ran them into the ground to win well over this course and distance. He then fought strongly to win narrowly over 1100m on the Poly. Gun jockey Jimmy Orman takes the ride and can race on the speed from barrier 2.
Morioka (11) like most Chris Waller horses will appreciate racing in Queensland after competing in New South Wales. Last start at Warwick Farm over 1200m she was held up at the top of the straight but worked home well late. Her past three starts have been on heavy tracks so being a daughter of Maurice, she should appreciate getting onto a good surface.
Expectant (1) found the line strongly for second behind Bundyandcoke at Eagle Farm in his first race for John Thomas. He was helped by the strong speed that day and would be advantaged if that is again the case here. He’ll be fitter second-up and has run well at his second run back in the past.
The chances don’t end there!
On Top Selection: Zoukina (9)
Race 7 - SIRROMET Class 1 Handicap (1100 METRES)
Speed: There’s no shortage of early speed here. Chief Artie and Legends Rule look most likely to lead.
Gear Changes: Excel In The Sun (9) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Kasear (11) Blinkers OFF FIRST TIME, Legend Rules (4) Ear Muffs OFF FIRST TIME, Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) AGAIN, Mary Valley (2) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME
Immoral (6) resumes here for Tony Gollan. She warmed up for this with a really nice trial win where she cruised around under her own steam. She’s only had the three career starts and did win when on debut. From the inside gate Angela Jones who claims 3kg can give her a sweet run.
King’s Express (3) found the line strongly when resuming at Doomben over 1110m with a 1.2 length third to Snappy Reply. That was in Class 2 company and he now drops back to a Class 1. He’ll be fitter second-up and is drawn well.
Legend Rules (4) resumes here and is first-up for Louise White. He won a trial in good style in preparation for this. Besides a last start failure on a heavy surface, his New South Wales form was good and should hold him in good stead here. Will give them something to catch.
Chief Artie (5) resumed with a second placing behind Argyle Lane at the Sunshine Coast. That horse is Incentivise’s brother and looks to have ability. Chief Artie was well clear of the rest. Can race on the speed and be in this for a long way.
Nasha (10) resumes here and is having her first start for Rob Heathcote. She finished second to Immoral in a trial and had to work a bit harder to keep up. Her form in Victoria was good and includes a win over 1400m at her last start. Look for her running on.
On Top Selection: Immoral (6)
Race 8 - GREAT NORTHERN Class 5 Handicap (1100 METRES)
Speed: There’s good speed engaged here. Never Paid will look to burn across early from the outside gate. Plutocrat will drive forward also.
Gear Changes: Lasting Kiss (4) Blinkers FIRST TIME
Plutocrat (3) will find this easier than recent races. Last start she raced on the speed before going down by 4.05 lengths to talented Go Wandji. That’s superior form for this. She is undefeated in two starts at Ipswich including four starts back over this course and distance. Adin Thompson who claims 2kg can go forward and give them something to catch.
Never Paid (2) was caught wide last start at the Gold Coast over 1100m but still fought on well for a 2.6 length third behind Lime Soda. Prior to that he bolted in by 4.5 lengths at the Gold Coast and won easily over this course and distance. He needs to overcome the outside gate but gets the services of Jimmy Orman.
Lasting Kiss (4) worked home well for third over 1200m here last start. She’ll be fitter and has won two of four when second-up. Blinkers go on for the first time which should really switch her on.
Vast Kama (9) found form last start when finishing second over 1200m here. Lasting Kiss was third in that race. He was never on the track but still worked home well. Unfortunately he again could get posted deep after drawing a wide gate.
On Top Selection: Plutocrat (3)
