We love hosting Friday race meetings and this Friday’s eight-race card looks set to be a cracker. Near perfect weather will grace the Ipswich circuit on what should be a Good racing surface. The rail is out 7m between the 1600m-1100m and 9m the remainder.
Race 1 - 1:31PM FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
Speed: As is the case with most 800m scampers, they don’t muck around. Singapore Lady and Champagne Torque look most likely to take up the running.
Gear Changes: Old Man Pat (1) Gelded, Winkers FIRST TIME, Miss Fassifern (6) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Sizzlelover (7) Blinkers AGAIN, Ear Muffs OFF FIRST TIME, Tongue Control and Lugging Bit OFF FIRST TIME
Singapore Lady (11) ran into the very good Hidden Wealth when finishing second on debut over this course and distance. She showed good speed to lead and was only run down late. She’ll be fitter second-up and better for the experience. Ben Thompson takes the ride.
You Ess Ess Are (12) resumes here following a 16-week spell and is also having her first start for Paul Butterworth. She was a speedy type in Victoria so should take advantage of the nice gate. She hasn’t been seen publicly since joining Butterworth which suggests the wily trainer may be setting her up for a first-up sting. Definitely watch the market.
Champagne Torque (8) wasn’t too far behind Singapore Lady last start. Tricky gate but she’s improved at each start and further improvement looks likely third-up.
Old Man Pat (1) is locally trained but went to Rockhampton to win a trial in preparation for his debut here. He’s a six-year-old so take on trust but he gets weight relief for Liv Ken’s claim and did show speed in the trial.
On Top Selection: Singapore Lady (11)
Race 2 - 2:06PM TAB Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
Speed: Steal The Field and Godra should set a solid tempo.
Gear Changes: Alberta The Fox (1) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) OFF FIRST TIME, Chayse 'N' Noah (2) Blindfold OFF FIRST TIME, Ear Muffs OFF FIRST TIME, Nose Roll FIRST TIME, Pacifiers OFF FIRST TIME, Steal The Field (6) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Cross-over Nose Band FIRST TIME, Nose Roll OFF FIRST TIME, Toff (7) Lugging Bit OFF FIRST TIME, Nose Roll FIRST TIME, Winkers OFF FIRST TIME, Fat Fingers (10) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Light Of Dubai (11) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Cross-over Nose Band OFF FIRST TIME, Pacifiers FIRST TIME, Winkers OFF FIRST TIME, Tubthumper (12) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME
This looks a very good race for Tubthumper (12). The Annabel Neasham-trained filly just missed when resuming at the Gold Coast over 1100m before suffering from heat stress last start when third over 1200m. She should be ready to fire third-up. Brodie Loy will settle off them before coming with a strong finish.
Spressi (5) looked like she needed the run when finishing 4.3 lengths behind Scat’s Surfer Girl here first-up. She ran well at the Sunshine Coast when finishing second at her last run last preparation and a return to that sort of form would see her feature here.
Excuse Me (9) can be forgiven for her last state failure at Eagle Farm as like a lot of horses, she just didn’t handle the track. The start prior she ran well to finish third at the Gold Coast. She’s drawn to get a great run.
On Top Selection: Tubthumper (12)
Race 3 - 2:43PM GREAT NORTHERN Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
Speed: Shadyvale Storm and Master Tyler can take up the running here at a genuine tempo.
Gear Changes: Mama's Man (3) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Pergamon (6) Gelded, Ready Made (8) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) FIRST TIME, Gelded, Last Royal (14) Blinkers OFF FIRST TIME
Master Tyler (2) burned gas early to cross and lead from the outside gate over this course and distance last start. He fought gamely but was run down late to finish second by half a length. He’ll strip fitter second-up and looks to enjoy a better run here. Keep an eye on him in the mounting yard however as he can lose his mind.
Pergamon (6) is on debut here for David Vandyke. He’s had two trials leading into this. The first saw him finish 4.6 lengths behind Master Tyler. In the most recent he looked good dashing away from the opposition. He’s been gelded and you have to respect this trainer/jockey combination.
Money Bear (5) over-raced over this course and distance last start when finishing fourth to Scat’s Surfer Girl. The start prior he was doing his best work over the final furlong. He keeps improving at each start and that should continue third-up. He’s drawn to get a great run for Mark Du Plessis.
Twyford (13) resumed with a good effort to finish second to Secret Memo over 1200m here. He got too far back but should settle closer here with the rise in distance.
On Top Selection: Master Tyler (2)
Race 4 - 3:23PM CROWNE RE GEOFF & ALLY BENCHMARK 58 Handicap (2150 METRES)
Speed: Barrymore, Hypertension and Memoire Parfait will all go forward to ensure a genuine tempo.
Gear Changes: Sandgate Road (5) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Lyndall (10) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) OFF FIRST TIME
Barrymore (1) ran a bold race when finishing third over this course and distance last start. He was tasked with dragging the field up to the tearaway leader so to finish just 0.3 of a length off the winner was a good effort. He drops in class and will carry just 1kg more. Should enjoy a nice run from the inside gate.
Delayed Launch (4) has been racing in good form and did win three starts back. Last start he finished just in front of Barrymore but did enjoy a better run. He rises 3.5kg but will be one of the leading players.
Memoire Parfait (3) was solid in a decent Class 2 race here over 1666m when resuming last start. He’ll be improved second-up and can race on the speed. From the strong Neasham stable.
On Top Selection: Barrymore (1)
Race 5 - 4:03PM TOTAL CLUB MANAGEMENT Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Speed: I’m A Foxygirl should look to cross from wideout and lead. A few others may look to add speed into the race.
Gear Changes: Najah (4) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME
Controlocracy (5) resumes here following a 17-week break. She’s had two trials leading into this so should be fit. The most recent trial saw her trot in by 4.25 lengths. She’s drawn well for Brodie Loy who should be able to take advantage and settle in a prominent position. Respecting the Neasham stable.
Tapis Magique (1) proved too strong when winning over 1100m at the Gold Coast last start. He’s been racing in good form and looks to enjoy a nice run off the inside gate.
Mishani Esprit (6) was taking ground off Tapis Magique last start when finishing a half-length second. That was a big improvement on what she had been showing. She can continue the upward spiral with the rise in distance. Jimmy Orman riding is a big plus.
Lynric Lass (9) has been racing in good form this preparation. The Josh ‘Mungo’ Morrow-trained mare was narrowly beaten by Dreamseeker at Stanthorpe two starts back when people were coming from all over to back that horse. She then ran a bold race in front at the Sunshine Coast before being run down by Tick Tock Queen. She can give some cheek on pace here.
On Top Selection: Controlocracy (5)
Race 6 - 4:43PM FUTURE FINANCE GROUP Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Speed: Chart Buster and Halfahope should lead from inside draws.
Gear Changes: Chart Buster (1) Barrier Blanket AGAIN, Visors AGAIN, Templar (5) Cross-over Nose Band OFF AGAIN, Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) AGAIN, Nose Roll OFF FIRST TIME, Royalspector (6) Cross-over Nose Band FIRST TIME, Norton Bit OFF FIRST TIME, Tongue Control Bit AGAIN
Halfahope (4) is on the quick back-up after finishing second to Tycoon Hallie last start over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. She showed good early speed and led for a long way. She can take advantage of that speed to rail up and settle in the lead or first two pairs. Marnu Potgieter’s 1.5kg claim is a plus.
River Rocket (2) was good when finishing 0.7 of a length fourth over 1350m here. He drops in class and trip but loves racing at Ipswich. He’s won two of five over the course and distance. Gun jockey Jimmy Orman takes the ride.
Chart Buster (1) found the 1000m too short when resuming at the Sunshine Coast last start. He had a nice record over this distance when previously trained by Ben and JD Hayes in Victoria. Will look the winner in the straight.
Royalspector (6) resumes here after a year off. He was given a soft trial leading into this. He raced in consistent form last preparation but may need the run after such a long break.
On Top Selection: Halfahope (4)
Race 7 - 5:19PM COLENSO JOINERY SUMMER PROVINCIAL SPRINT SERIES - HEAT - BENCHMARK 75 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Speed: Ta Chanson and Oriental Runner will go forward and make sure this is a solidly run race.
Euro Belle (6) resumed in fine fashion with a win over this course and distance. She jumped well, settled just off them before coming with a strong run all with 59kg on her back. Jimmy Orman retains the ride which is a positive. She loves Ipswich having won two of three over the course and distance.
Broken Hero (1) resumes here without a public trial but has raced well fresh in the past. He has to carry 61kg but does find himself in an easier class race than what he was in last preparation. This is Justin Stanley’s only ride for the day.
Oriental Runner (5) is two from two at Ipswich this preparation. He won an 800m scamper first-up before proving that was no fluke with a narrow win over this distance two starts back. Robbie Fradd was on that day and is again in the saddle here. He can lead and prove hard to catch.
Checkers (2) went very close to winning when first-up at Eagle Farm over 1200m. He’s a consistent galloper that races well at Ipswich including a win over 1350m three starts back. Ben Thompson going on is a plus.
On Top Selection: Euro Belle (6)
Race 8 - 5:49PM IPSWICH CITY BULLS FC BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1666 METRES)
Speed: There looks to be good speed engaged here with the likes of Chasing Jackley, Okalani and Spurious all going forward.
Gear Changes: Storm Harbour (14) Norton Bit AGAIN, Standard Bit OFF FIRST TIME
Okalani (10) didn’t have the clearest run when finishing third to Scenic Rim over 1350m here second-up. She did find the line once clear suggesting she is looking for this extra distance. Jimmy Orman takes the ride and should be able to counter the wide gate by going forward and finding a prominent position.
Besides one poor run at the Sunshine Coast, Chasing Jackley (1) has been in flying form. He’s won three of his past four starts including last start over this course and distance. He has plenty of weight but Jake Molloy’s claim helps. He’ll be in front for a long way.
Vandangle (4) resumes here off a short break and is also having his first start for Jack Bruce. He’s raced well fresh in the past and Bruce has a good record with horses coming up from down south. Drawn to get all the favours.
Class Of Royalty (3) has been solid in two runs back this preparation. History shows that this guy can take a few runs and usually fires third-up. He last won here on Ipswich Cup day so the track holds no fears.
On Top Selection: Okalani (10)
