Another midweek metro fixture was run at Ipswich on Wednesday, where former Group 1 winning jockey Peter Robl was among the winners with slick sprinter Richon.
Now based on the Gold Coast, Robl always has Richon ready to rumble fresh, with yesterday being his third career success when first up from a spell. It was apprentice Jake Molloy’s first win on the horse.
The Stuart Kendrick juggernaut rolled on when Bonded Affair made a one-act affair of the opening event, romping home under Ben Thompson despite a late betting drift. Kendrick is striking at 30% from his past 50 runners.
Thompson made it a race-to-race double winning the second race on Final Selection for Darryl Hansen, giving Sunshine Coast trainers the first two events. Shaun Dwyer gave the Caloundra team a third win for the day when Time To Testify overcame a three wide passage to win race 5 on the card under Mark Du Plessis.
Tony Gollan and Kelly Schweida continued their successful association with Ipswich since the track’s return to racing, winning a race each to round out the program.
The Gollan trained I Am Takingthelot has won two of her past three starts now after proving too good under James Orman in the TIACS Foundation Class 1 Plate, while Schweida’s Starzam ran up to a sizzling recent trial to land the Benchmark 70 for apprentice Cejay Graham.
Off the track, the club was proud to host students, teachers and administrators from the Australian Industry Trade College yesterday. The College conducted a forum on site, highlighting the Equine program, which is growing all the time and one the Ipswich Turf Club is proud to support.
CEO Tim Dunn then hosted a tour of the Ipswich track for the students, who have shown interest in obtaining a career in the horse racing industry.
